Dots – a game about connecting

1 May, 2013 Pete

post_7449-450x286.jpg

Betaworks Hacker-In-Residence Patrick Moberg has created one of the most beautiful, simple and addictive games that I’ve seen for the iPhone. You should stop working and spend the rest of the day playing it!

Oh and if you haven’t checked out his illustration work, it’s incredible as well.

The School of Life’s Sunday Sermons

12 September, 2012 Pete

post_7267-450x385.jpg

The School of Life is one of my favorite finds of the year, and since discovering them, I’ve been making it a tradition to watch one of their Sunday Sermons every week. And while there may not be as much hooting and hollering as at a religious gathering, I find the content to be much more valuable, far less tribal, and much more in-tune with my own project of continued self-betterment. I hope you all enjoy.

The School of Life is a new enterprise offering good ideas for everyday life. We are based in a small shop in Central London where we offer a variety of programmes and services concerned with how to live wisely and well. We address such questions as why work is often unfulfilling, why relationships can be so challenging, why it’s ever harder to stay calm and what one could do to try to change the world for the better.

Reimagining an Entire Neighborhood Through Murals

2 August, 2012 Pete

post_7247-450x316.jpg

This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while; imagine the influx of people, money and safety that can be brought to a dying neighborhood by turning the entire area into an incredible and community-inclusive art project.

The artists were commissioned by the City of Philadelphia and its Mural Arts Program to paint a section of Germantown Avenue as part of an ongoing revitalization effort targeted at stagnant commercial corridors. Located in the central part of North Philadelphia a few blocks east of Broad Street, the neighborhood is better known for its abandoned houses than its arts scene.

David Brin’s EXISTENCE

17 July, 2012 Pete

David Brin’s bold newest novel EXISTENCE explores the ultimate question: Billions of planets may be ripe for life, even intelligence. So where is Everybody? Do civilizations make the same fatal mistakes, over and over? Might we be the first to cross the mine-field, evading every trap to learn the secret of EXISTENCE?

Just released new novel that looks pretty epic.

No Right Brain Left Behind

18 May, 2012 Pete

NRBLB was a 7 day innovation challenge asking creatives to re-think creativity and innovation in education. In 7 days, we received over 300 concepts from 150 teams nationally. Top 3 ideas were picked by a judging panel led by Sir Ken Robinson.

Love this initiative. Education has been broken for decades, and we desperately need to reinvent how we teach kids to learn in an ever faster evolving world. Creativity is at the core of what is needed in the future, and that is precisely the area that has been cut from most education. Time to rethink. This is a great start.
