In honor of Day of the Dead check out Jon Hall’s paintings of old record covers with DOTD masks; very cool.
These are primarily album covers from the 50’s and 60’s, mostly American celebrities that were once (and many still) adored by fans. They are a slice of Americana from my childhood. Using them as a canvas, I’m “muertifying” their images, with Dia de los Muertos imagery. It’s a sometimes clashing of these two cultural pursuits… one of celebrity and fame, the other of the truth of and mortality, and the celebration of the memory of loved ones passed.
