“A marvel of passionate succinctness, Robert Kane Pappas’ documentary critically examines the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. The documentary asks, “Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?…”
I just finished watching this spellbinding and terrifying documentary. As a marketer and designer I am becoming more and more aware of the powers in my control. Those powers are more often than not hired for the purpose of inducing consumption. As a manipulator of image is my obligation to corporations or to people? To truth or to marketing? At what point do we become part of the problem? Artists hired to delude the people? Is that what we are becoming? Art used to be about freedom and expression… as this documentary clearly shows, we are running out of both. They’ve done it to radio, newspapers, television, its only a matter of time before they come after the web. A battle is approaching and we need to take sides.
We need to not only support net neutrality, we need to fight for it with all our power.
