Photos of Children From Around the World With Their Most Prized Possessions

20 March, 2013 Pete

post_7410-450x450.jpg

Shot over a period of 18 months, Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s project Toy Stories compiles photos of children from around the world with their prized possesions—their toys. Galimberti explores the universality of being a kid amidst the diversity of the countless corners of the world; saying, “at their age, they are pretty all much the same; they just want to play.”

Great concept and execution.

The Heart & The Sea

18 March, 2013 Pete

‘The Heart & The Sea’ is the third release from independent Australian filmmaker Nathan Oldfield, the creator of the highly regarded left of centre surf films ‘Lines From a Poem’ and ‘Seaworthy’.
Over three years in the making, ‘The Heart & The Sea’ explores the joy that lies at the very centre of a surfing life: family, friends & a shared intimacy with the sea. Filmed in Australia, New Zealand, France & Spain, this is a gently refreshing & quietly enchanting contribution to the surf film genre.

Hessian

6 February, 2013 Pete

post_7364-450x237.jpg

Hessian is an invader, an ode, a pitch to the market, a brand for sale.

Ben Pierrat developed this brand as an experiment for himself – that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value for someone else. Ben hopes that value lies somewhere around the $18,000 mark.

There is a great article on Wired about the project.

His thinking is spot-on when he says:

“The core thought with Hessian.tv is that, as designers, we naturally see solutions to problems/opportunities we can’t help but notice in the market. We have concepts that we know are valid and worthwhile, and not only that but we instinctually know how they should be launched, how they should look, how they should work, and who their target audience should be.

HOWEVER, as anyone who has tried building something knows, the actual production and launch of a great idea is incredibly difficult. Not only that, but, as Svpply taught me, launching, leading, growing and managing a product is an entirely different skill set than most designers have or want to have or should be expected to have.

Inversely, there are oceans of MBAs, Managers and Entrepreneurs out there who are passionate and talented at the actual building and leading of companies, but may not actually be great at identifying worthwhile problem/solutions in the market.”
